The programme is a key pillar of World Aquatics’ long-term commitment to growing and empowering its global community and essential support for Member Federations across the world. It plays a vital role in helping Member Federations to develop sustainable structures, improve governance and education and create more development pathways for athletes.

In 2025, 669 projects across 181 countries were supported through the AQUASP, involving an incredible 216,131 athletes. This was facilitated through an investment of USD $4.8 million. 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the 2026 programme, Member Federations must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Participation at World Aquatics Championships
  2. World Aquatics Congress Attendance
  3. Governance Survey Submission
  4. Completion of Previous AQUASP Editions

Application Guidelines

Eligible Member Federations must submit their application via the GMS by 31 January 2026. Applications should include detailed explanations of proposed projects.

Project Requirements

Projects submitted under AQUASP 2026 must support the development, growth and sustainability of aquatic sports in their communities. The following requirements apply:

  • At least one project must focus on the improvement and implementation of good governance, with reference to the Federation’s governance survey report
  • A minimum of 75% of the total allocated funds must directly or indirectly benefit athletes

Programme Funding

Eligible Member Federations may receive up to USD $25,000 to support their development initiatives.

Additional financial support includes:

  • A USD $5,000 bonus for Federations that demonstrate an improvement in their governance score from 2025 to 2026.
