
Japan’s Taishin Minamide overtook race leader Cheng-Chi Cho of Chinese Taipei in the final meters of the men’s 10km to win by 3/10th of a second – 1:58:21.2 to 1:58:21.5 – to help propel Japan to the top of the medals table at the Asian Open Water Swimming Championships.
Across the men’s and women’s categories in the 5km and 10km distance events, Japan finished with three gold, one silver and one bronze in last weekend’s events in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Minamide’s close 10km victory was bolstered by his gold-medal swim in the men’s 5km. Compatriot Yukimi Moriyama took a commanding gold in the women’s 5km while Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Wen Teng to the win in the women’s 10km.
