World Aquatics hosted an engaging webinar on its CORAL eLearning platform, bringing together Artistic Swimming Technical Controllers from around the world for an hour of expert insights, practical guidance and discussion.
Titled “Artistic Swimming Technical Controllers and the Review Process: Insights from the Experts”, the webinar welcomed 160 participants and offered a valuable opportunity to explore the review process and the role of Technical Controllers through both expert presentations and real competition examples.
Expert insights from experienced officials
The session was led by two highly experienced World Aquatics officials: Iva Gricar and Ali Pratt.
Iva Gricar, a Gold Level Technical Controller and Judge, has served as an Olympic Games official at Paris 2024 and as a Technical Controller at the World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024.
Ali Pratt, a Gold Level Technical Controller and World Aquatics Evaluator and Instructor, has extensive experience officiating at World Championships and Olympic Games as a Technical Controller.
Before the session began, Lisa Schott, Chairperson of the Artistic Swimming Technical Committee, welcomed participants. She also joined the presenters during the Q&A, contributing to the discussion and sharing her expertise.
From review process to practical examples
The webinar covered several key areas in its programme: the review process and its key aspects, practical information for Technical Controllers, highlights of the 2026 season and key moments, as well as an interactive Q&A session.
Beyond general guidance, the presenters brought the subject to life with practical examples from World Aquatics competitions, highlighting common errors and discussing how Technical Controllers can approach different situations.
Participants also gain insight into the equipment and technology used during competitions, including an example of the tablet used by the Difficulty Technical Controller during a routine. The tablet allows the Difficulty Technical Controller to indicate whether they wish to review an element, confirm it, or assign a base mark during the routine. This provides a closer look at the tools that support the technical review process.
Continuing the journey
The webinar provided an opportunity for Technical Controllers to refresh their knowledge, exchange experiences, and reflect on key developments from the 2026 season.
For those who could not attend live – or would like to revisit the session – the recording will be published on CORAL on October 10.
And the learning continues: the next Artistic Swimming webinar on CORAL will focus on Artistic Swimming Judges and is planned for November 2026.
Stay tuned for more opportunities to learn, share experiences and strengthen the knowledge and expertise of the Artistic Swimming officiating community.
