World Aquatics is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Pipat Paniangvait, who served as the Honorary Treasurer of FINA from 2009 to 2021.
Mr Paniangvait was born on 4 July 1939 in Bangkok, Thailand, and was devoted to aquatic sports from an early age.
In his youth, he won gold medals in local and regional competitions, before going on to enjoy a hugely successful career in business.
He served as a long-time member of the FINA Bureau, before his election as FINA Honorary Treasurer from 2009, a position he held for 12 years, delivering more than a decade of financial stewardship to the International Federation.
On behalf of World Aquatics, President Husain Al Musallam expressed his condolences to the family of Mr Paniangvait and the aquatics community in Thailand.
“It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Mr Pipat Paniangvait, who provided decades of outstanding service to aquatic sport,” President Al Musallam said.
“As FINA Honorary Treasurer, Mr Paniangvait delivered a strong and stable footing for the finances of the International Federation, ensuring it was well positioned to deal with the shock of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“All of our thoughts at this time are with Mr Paniangvait’s family and the Thailand Swimming Association.”
In addition to his service of FINA and aquatic sports globally, Mr Paniangvait was a key business leader in Thailand.
During his distinguished career, he served as President and CEO of Thai President Foods Public Company Limited, as well as an Advisor to the Board of Directors at President Rice Products Public Company Limited.
Mr Paniangvait was married and had seven children. He will be remembered as both a lifelong champion of swimming and a pioneer of Thai business.
