Qin Haiyang's enduring brilliance at the World Aquatics Championships was on full display during the men's 200m breaststroke final. Racing beside the reigning world champion Zac Stubblety-Cook of Australia, Qin left no doubt about leaving his mark in Fukuoka, dispatching the field to take the win and the World Record in 2:05.48.
The 24-year-old lopped 5/10ths of a second off the then-World Record holder Stubblety-Cook to take his third world title on day six of swimming here in Japan.
Stubblety-Cook earned silver in 2:06.40 as the USA's Matt Fallon took his first medal in a global competition, finishing third in 2:07.74.
When asked about taking almost half a second off Stubblety-Cook’s mark, Qin said, "(It's) not my dream. I dream of a 100 world record."
Qin's teenage teammate Dong Zhihao finished fourth, setting a new World Junior Record of 2:08.04 in the process.
