World Aquatics is seeking sustainable, vegan or biodegradable feeding bottles suitable for use in elite open water swimming competition, and is calling on manufacturers, designers and material specialists to collaborate.
This work directly supports the World Aquatics Sustainability Blueprint, launched in September 2025. The Blueprint outlines a clear direction for the future of aquatic sport: reducing environmental impact, strengthening social responsibility and embedding sustainability into every aspect of operations. Developed with extensive input from athletes, Member Federations, partners and industry experts, the Blueprint aims to ensure aquatic sports can thrive in harmony with nature for generations to come.
Open water swimming is one of the sports where this commitment is obvious and real, every day. Athletes compete in the very environments we aim to protect. Their performance and safety depend on clean, healthy waters, making environmental responsibility an essential part of the sport.
Yet despite increasing innovation in sustainable materials, few solutions currently meet the specific performance and safety needs of elite open water competition.
Feeding bottles are a vital part of this picture. They provide essential hydration and nutrition during long, demanding races, and athletes rely on them at critical moments. Transitioning to sustainable alternatives offers a practical way to reduce single-use plastics while supporting the wellbeing and performance of athletes.
If your company can support this mission, we want to hear from you.
