The 2024 World Aquatics High Diving World Cup season served as the qualification pathway for the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025. As the world’s best prepare to compete on the sport’s biggest stage, we look closer at the athletes set to compete from the breathtaking heights of the 20m and 27m platforms.
Up next in the women's competition is Meili Carpenter. Meili placed 5th at the World Aquatics High Diving World Cup 2024 in Bahrain and is excited to compete at the World Championships in Singapore 2025.
We put Meili into the question-and-answer hot seat. Here's what we got from her:
Dream Dive Landmark: Waterfalls and Mountains
Meili is captivated by natural wonders. “I like waterfalls, so anytime there’s a waterfall, I’m interested,” she said. While she’s not certain about diving into one, she admitted her love for scenic heights and nature. “Mountains and waterfalls—those are fun.”
Favorite Competition Spot: Japan’s Sacred Waterfall
Meili has travelled far and wide, but Japan stands out. “Probably Japan, because I love it there,” she shared. She was especially enchanted by the waterfall where a Red Bull competition took place. “It was just beautiful and different,” she recalled, emphasizing the unique ambiance.
Celebrity Guest? Too Hard to Choose!
When asked which celebrity she’d invite to watch her dive, Meili found it tough to pick. “What celebrity do I like? I don’t know!” she laughed. She confessed that naming celebrities isn’t her strong suit, adding, “I’ll probably think of one in like, two hours.”
Signature Dive: Master of Mimicry
Meili’s standout talent is adaptability. “One of my strengths is being able to match with different people,” she said. Whether it’s synchronizing with a partner or adapting to a new setting. My own style is to mimic others—I can watch and make it look similar.”
Pre-Dive Rituals: Talkative and Focused
Unlike some athletes who find their zone in silence, Meili embraces chatter. “I always warn people because I talk,” she said. It’s part of her process, keeping her grounded and engaged before stepping onto the platform.
