Here’s a look at what the competitors had to say after the first men’s diving event of the Paris 2024 Olympics: men’s 10m synchro.
On Monday, the men’s Olympic 10m synchro divers revealed who snores, who got hit by a cup, who was most sad, and who is best looking.
Lian Junjie (CHN) – GOLD, men’s 10m synchro with Yang Hao
“Before the Olympics, we definitely feel very tense. We were very cautious. [Today] we did quite well. That’s why we smiled. – a LOT. I think we did our job: we are now both good looking and we put on a good performance.”
Yang Hao (CHN) - GOLD, men’s 10m synchro with Lian Junjie
“I’m very happy to win this gold medal for the Chinese diving team – and take back this medal from Tokyo. This is a contribution to our county. To win eight gold medals [here] I think we need to unite as a team to help and support each other. We need to contribute our very best. We don’t want to think too much too about it. I think it will be alright in the end.”
Tom Daley (GBR) - SILVER men’s 10m synchro with Noah Williams
“To be able to dive in front of my kids and my family was really special – even having [my son] Phoenix throw his water cup at me while I was doing interviews. It's been such a special Games. In Beijing [2008, my first Olympics] I had no idea…the scale of the competition. I met [tennis players Rafael] Nadal and Andy Murray for the first time. It's surreal we are all still going."
Noah Williams (GBR) – SILVER men’s 10m synchro with Tom Daley
“Tom [Daley] snores, really badly. I’ve been up since 3am – not because of that. I was really excited to compete, but it didn’t help. I listened to him snore for five hours. I was a bit jealous. I lay in bed with my eyes closed not falling asleep. I thought: 'I wish I was sleeping'.”
Rylan Wiens (CAN) – BRONZE men’s 10m synchro with Nathan Zsombor-Murray
“A dream has come true. [The bronze medal is] amazing. It's heavy, it's pure."
Randal Willars Valdez (MEX) – 4th place, men’s 10m synchro with Kevin Berlin Reyes
“It does not matter if it was one point or 100 points. We were fourth. I am sad about not winning a medal.”
