Japan Swimming sent 29 swimmers (13 women and 16 men), seven divers (four women and three men), 13 players for the men's Water Polo and ten synchronised swimmers. As a result, Japan Swimming won nine gold medals compared to 16 at the last Games in 2006. The Japanese delegation was a little disappointed with this results but congratulated China, Korea, Singapore, Kazakhstan and the other countries for their success in the competition.

Japan's spearheads Takeshi Matsuda, Ryosuke Irie, Junya Koga, Yuya Horihata, Ken Takakuwa, Ryo Tateishi, Naoya Tomita and the team of the 4x100m medley all won a gold medal. Beside, two Japanese high school swimmers took part in the Games: Risa Sekine, 17, and Yuki Kobori, 17 too. They enjoyed their good races in the 200m freestyle for example. Japan's star Kosuke Kitajima did not swim in peak form due to a right shoulder injury.

The next Asian Games will be held in Incheon, South Korea, in 2014.

Now Japan gets ready for the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Dubai, UAE, starting December 15. Japan will send five women and six men, among which Ryosuke Irie and Naoya Tomita.
