The World Aquatics Masters Education Programme will continue its 2026 series of free online educational webinars on 28 September, with a session focused on osteoporosis prevention.
The webinar will take place via Zoom at 12:00 CET, free of charge. You can register for the webinar under the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_DGpzrXcoTJ2p8hVde_3-sQ
The webinar will explore the importance of bone health and the particular considerations for participants competing in non-weight-bearing sports, with a focus on osteoporosis prevention and the needs of Masters participants.
As participants get older, maintaining long-term bone health becomes increasingly important for staying active and continuing to participate in sport. The session will provide an opportunity for Masters participants to learn more about bone health and the role that appropriate training, lifestyle and health strategies can play in maintaining strong bones.
Dr James Miller, a renowned figure in sports medicine and a member of the World Aquatics Sports Medicine Committee, will lead the session, supported by Guy Phiri, a member of the World Aquatics Masters Committee.
Speaking ahead of the webinar, Dr Miller said: "Aquatic sports are outstanding forms of exercise that hugely benefit cardiovascular fitness, mobility and muscle endurance, without the same bone-loading stimulus as other resistance or impact sports. This webinar will provide practical information on maintaining bone health and strength, offering support and guidance to Masters participants in particular".
The 2026 Masters Education Programme will conclude with the final online webinar of the year focusing on Nutrition for Masters participants. The dates will be confirmed soon.
The Masters Education Programme forms part of World Aquatics' commitment to supporting the health, wellbeing and continued participation of Masters participants through accessible education and expert guidance. You can learn more about the programme and Masters sport here.
