World Aquatics is proud to recognise a landmark moment for Masters swimming, with Maurine Kornfeld (USA) becoming the first woman ever to set a World Aquatics Masters Record in the 105-109 age group.
Kornfeld set the mark in the Women's 50m Backstroke (Long Course Metres), clocking a time of 2:05.63 on 7 June 2026. The performance stands as a historic first for women's Masters swimming, opening the record books in this rare and remarkable age category to female Masters participants for the very first time.
The 105-109 age group remains one of the smallest and most exclusive in the sport, with only a handful of swimmers worldwide ever having competed at this level. Kornfeld's record is a testament to the lifelong power of sport, and a powerful reminder that the pool remains a place for competition, community and personal challenge at any age.
The only previous record in this age group belongs to Jaring Timmerman (CAN), who set marks in the Men's 50m Backstroke (3:09.55) and 50m Freestyle (2:52.48) on 24 January 2014. He remains the first and only male swimmer to have achieved a World Aquatics Masters Record in the 105-109 category.
World Aquatics congratulates Maurine Kornfeld on this extraordinary and historic achievement, and celebrates all Masters swimmers who continue to inspire the aquatics community by pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the sport.
