The Aquatics Integrity Unit is committed to guaranteeing the rights of athletes bound by the World Aquatics Regulations, who lack the financial means to properly defend themselves. In furtherance of this commitment, the AQIU is creating a list of lawyers and law firms who can provide legal assistance to athletes, coaches, officials and other stakeholders free of charge. For example, the assistance may include summary advice and/or representation in relation to athlete eligibility, selection, disciplinary, safeguarding and anti-doping matters.
Lausanne, 27 January 2026 – The Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) invites applications from appropriately qualified lawyers and law firms who wish to feature on this list. In order to be eligible for selection on AQIU’s list of Pro Bono Counsel, candidates must:
- Be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of World Aquatics’ rules and regulations.
- Be licensed to practise law in at least one national jurisdiction of World Aquatics’ member federations.
- Have a minimum of two years of professional experience in sports law.
- Be able to demonstrate their availability and flexibility in order to give attention to any matter in which they are appointed.
- Be independent and have no pre-existing relationship with or official function at World Aquatics, the AQIU, Continental Organisations or Member Federations.
- Be fluent in English
