World, Olympic and European champion Hubert Kos has been named Hungary’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2025 by the country’s sportswriters, following a standout season across collegiate and international competition.
Hungarian sportswriters have selected World Aquatics champion Hubert Kos as the nation’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2025, recognising a year marked by major titles, record-breaking performances and consistent excellence at the highest level of the sport.
It marks the second consecutive year that Kos has received the honour, following a highly successful 2025 season.
At the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, Kos opened his international campaign with bronze in the men’s 200m individual medley. He followed that performance with a European Record in the 200m backstroke, clocking 1:53.19 to better the previous mark of 1:53.23 set in 2021.
Later in the year, Kós dominated the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup circuit, securing the men’s overall title. He was the only male swimmer to win three events at each stop of the tour, sweeping all nine backstroke races and finishing runner-up to Casas in the 100m individual medley at all three meets.
His season also included two world records in the 25m pool, lowering the global standards in the men’s 100m backstroke (48.16) and 200m backstroke (1:45.12), further underlining his status as one of the sport’s leading performers.
