The programme adds to the multi-year partnership between World Aquatics and KAP7, announced in May 2025 and running through the LA28 Olympic Games and beyond, and reflects World Aquatics’ commitment to the long-term development and empowerment of women in aquatics.

The Women in Water Polo Leadership Programme is a structured pathway designed to develop leadership skills, technical expertise and long-term career progression. Through online sessions, in-person courses and ongoing community support, participants will enhance their skills, confidence, visibility and professional networks.

A central element is the leadership development component, delivered primarily through online group sessions. Participants will begin with a leadership psychometric survey and then engage with core leadership concepts relevant to high-performance sport, including governance structures, power dynamics and strategies for navigating systemic barriers.

They will continue to build their skills and connections through quarterly community sessions, where they can share experiences, discuss real-world scenarios, address common challenges and strengthen global peer support.

Alongside leadership development, they will have access to World Aquatics certification and education opportunities. They will be able to attend an in-person Technical Officials course in 2026, and coaches will have the opportunity to participate in a World Aquatics Coaches Certification Course in 2027, combining theory and practice to support professional development at both national and international levels.

Speaking about the inaugural course, World Aquatics Director of Development and Athletes Services Morgane Gaultier, stated; “This programme celebrates the incredible work women are already doing in water polo.

“It’s designed to complement their expertise, providing new spaces to connect, share experiences and explore leadership at the highest levels."

"By supporting one another and exchanging knowledge globally, these coaches and officials can continue to shape the future of our sport"
