Three-time Olympian Grace Reid has announced her retirement from elite diving, closing an accomplished career highlighted by major medals at the world, European, and Commonwealth levels.
Three-time Olympian Grace Reid has announced her retirement from elite diving, closing a notable 25-year journey in the sport that has seen her become one of Great Britain’s most accomplished springboard divers.
Reid first competed internationally at age 14 for Scotland at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. Six years later, she made her Olympic debut for Great Britain at Rio 2016, shortly after winning her first European medals — a 3m bronze and a Mixed 3m Synchro gold with Tom Daley.
She went on to represent Great Britain at three consecutive Olympic Games — Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 — earning major titles along the way, including two European crowns, Commonwealth golds in 2018 and 2022, and her first individual World Championships medal in Doha earlier this year.
“I think the biggest thing for me is a feeling that I'm leaving on my own terms and feeling like I've done everything I wanted to do in the sport,” said Grace on confirming her retirement. “I just know in my heart that it's time for a new adventure and a new chapter.”
Reflecting on her career, she added:
“Making my first Olympic Games will always be a standout because it was something I dreamed about as a little girl. Winning gold at the Europeans in front of a home crowd in Edinburgh is another memory I’ll hold forever. My mum and dad have been my biggest supporters, and I’ve been so lucky to have incredible coaches and staff guiding me in and out of the pool.”
Known for her professionalism and passion for mentoring young athletes, Reid has been a respected figure in British and international diving throughout her career.
Aquatics GB Diving Programme Lead Matt Ashman said:
“Grace should be so proud of everything she has achieved – as a three-time Olympian, European and Commonwealth Champion, and World Championship medallist. Her professionalism and positive attitude have inspired so many divers, coaches and staff to raise their game. We are so grateful for everything Grace has brought to the sport and wish her all the best for the future.”
