A Lifelong Love for the Water

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved being in the water. I started out swimming as a child growing up in Queensland, Australia, but everything changed when I discovered artistic swimming at the age of 13. That was when I truly found my passion. My journey in the sport has been driven by passion and perseverance, and I'm proud to have represented Australia on the world stage at the 2015, 2017, and 2019 World Aquatics World Championships, as well as the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. Artistic swimming was my world for over a decade, and I’m so proud of what I was able to achieve.

From Athlete to Intern

Now, I’m on a new journey one that’s taken me from the pool deck to the heart of international sport governance. I’m currently completing the World Aquatics Athlete Internship, a six-month opportunity based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It’s a chance to experience the other side of the sporting world and see how everything runs behind the scenes. I’m working across many departments including like communications, marketing, development, and sport, learning how the organisation functions and figuring out where I can make a difference in the future.

A New Perspective on Sport

It’s been an eye-opening experience. As an athlete, I was so focused on training and competing that I didn’t always see the massive amount of work that goes into making international events possible. Being part of the team at World Aquatics has shown me just how many moving pieces there are, along with the incredible dedication of the people working behind the scenes.

Building a Career Beyond Competition

Before stepping into this internship, I had already started preparing for life after competition. While I was still training and competing, I completed a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management at Notre Dame University in Perth, Western Australia. After retiring from elite sport, I worked with Artistic Swimming Western Australia as the Events and Communications Officer. This role allowed me to stay connected to the sport I love by organizing competitions, supporting club development, and helping grow the community. I also continued coaching, which I really enjoyed, as it allowed me to give back to my sport in a meaningful way.

A New Chapter begins in Lausanne

Living in Lausanne and working with World Aquatics has been an amazing new chapter. This internship has been an incredible opportunity to understand the inner workings of aquatics and contribute in a new and rewarding way. It’s been fascinating to step into this role and learn from so many passionate professionals. Sport has always been my passion, and I’ve always known I wanted to stay involved beyond my competitive career. One of my biggest dreams is to be part of the organising team for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, my home Olympics. I see it as a chance to come full circle, using everything I’ve learned as an athlete and now as an intern to help create something that will inspire the next generation.
