
Olympic champions Wang Zongyuan and Quan Hongchan made a dominant start on Day 1 of the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2025 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Zongyuan led the men's 3m springboard prelims, while Hongchan topped the women's 10m platform prelims.
Men’s 3m Springboard Prelims
Nine nations, featuring seven Olympians, have advanced to the men’s 3m springboard finals on Saturday, 5 April, after securing a top-12 finish in the prelims.
China’s Wang Zongyuan led with a score of 505.80, finishing more than 50 points ahead of his teammate Zheng Jiuyuan who placed second with a score of 451.80. Olympians Moritz Wesemann and Luis Felipe Uribe Bermudez took third and fourth, while Olympic medalists Jack Laugher and Juan Manuel Celaya Hernandez placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Team GB’s Paris Olympian Jordan Christopher Houlden, who finished seventh, reflects on his prelims experience:
“It is the first world event since the Olympics, I was raring to go but also quite nervous. I was a little bit shaky at the start, but as the rounds went by, I gained more confidence. Hopefully I can show what I'm fully capable of in the final. I'm just going to go out there and enjoy what I love to do which is to dive.”
A historic moment also unfolded in the prelims as Mohamed Farouk of Team Egypt and Matej Nevescanin of Team Croatia secured their spots in the finals, marking a milestone for their nations.
“It’s always an immense honor to represent and compete for my country Egypt. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to showcase my skills on the world stage. This is my first time qualifying and competing at a World Cup after the new qualifying system, and the experience has been incredible. I am happy about the 3m springboard event, where I managed to make it to the final. Women’s 10m Platform Prelims
Twelve divers have secured their spots in the women’s 10m platform final, set for Saturday, 5 April, at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2025 in Guadalajara.
As expected, the Chinese Olympic Champions duo, Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi, once again demonstrated their dominance, finishing first (390.40) and second (373.65), respectively. Finishing third, 3m Paris 2024 Olympian Alejandra Estudillo Torres made history by performing the most difficult dive list in the women’s 10m platform event, which included a 5255B (Back 2½ Somersaults with 2½ Twists in the Pike position) and a 307C (Reverse 3½ Somersaults in the Tuck position).
Germany’s Pauline Alexandra Pfeif delivered a consistent dive list to finish fourth, while U.S. Olympian Daryn Wright scored an impressive 8s and 8.5s, earning 81 points for her 207C (Back 3 ½ somersault in the Tuck position) to finish fifth.

“I am so happy and grateful that I was able to put out a performance that qualified me for the finals. Although it definitely wasn’t my best performance in the prelims, I am excited to be able to have another opportunity to display what I am capable of in the finals. In the finals my goal is top 8, but also no matter the outcome I just want to put out a performance that I am happy with. I am competing against some of the world’s best women’s 10m platform divers, one of them being my amazing teammate Laura Hingston, who has been so supportive and helpful during this stop in Guadalajara.
