Jordan Crooks of the Cayman Islands joins in rewriting the record books at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m), setting the World Record for the Men’s 50m Freestyle with a 20.08 during Saturday’s morning prelims.
The 22-year-old, who is the defending World champion in the event, won bronze in the Men’s 100m freestyle final on Thursday in the Hungarian capital, the first medal for a Caribbean athlete at these Championships.
Crooks eclipsed the former World Record held by Caeleb Dressel of the United States by .08 seconds, with the American having also set the previous all-time best in this same Duna Arena pool in Budapest, Hungary.
“I’m just going to stay on the same process and prepare for tonight, where I hope to do even better,” Crooks told World Aquatics following his record-breaking swim.
The Men’s 50m Freestyle semifinals will take place tonight at 6:21 local time and the finals at 6:21 on Sunday for the final night of racing of these Championships.
