The driving force behind this transformative step was to ensure that PAQ is in alignment with the modern principles of sports governance, particularly emphasizing gender equality and regional representation, as mandated by the World Aquatics Constitution. This progressive leap eliminates the rotational zone leadership system in favour of free elections, making PAQ the first continental organization to achieve compliance with World Aquatics and align across shared goals and ideals.

At the heart of this new Constitution is a resolute commitment to gender equality within committees and individual positions within the organization. By removing barriers and fostering transparency, PAQ is creating an environment that places athletes at its core focus and empowers women to take an equal role in every facet of governance. This shift is an essential step towards building a balanced leadership that encapsulates representatives from all corners of the continent, underlining the significance of inclusivity and equality.

Reflecting on the journey leading up to this landmark moment, PAQ President Maureen Croes, noted: "This Extraordinary Congress, like many of the other things that PAQ has done over the past years, was a historical first and a groundbreaking moment that highlights the many exciting changes that are part of the growth and development of our organization for aquatic athletes and our disciplines across the continent."

World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam and Executive Director Brent J. Nowicki shared a video message during the virtual congress, congratulating the PAQ for taking this transformative step.

As PAQ prepares to enter this new chapter of modern governance, the organisation calls upon its members to unite and embrace this change for the betterment of aquatic sports in the Americas. The adoption of the new Constitution on August 24th marks not only a momentous day in PAQ's history but also the dawn of a new era, where the organization's commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and excellence will lead the way toward unparalleled success.
