Environmental Responsibility|Harnessing Solar Power and Innovative Materials 

Myrtha Pools has taken significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint and minimising its reliance on traditional energy sources. With the upcoming installation of solar panels, the company expects to meet at least 50% of its energy needs through renewable energy starting this summer. This transition to clean energy demonstrates Myrtha’s dedication to combatting climate change and embracing sustainable practices. 

Furthermore, Myrtha’s Research and Development team has been actively exploring the potential of recycled and recyclable materials for pool construction. By incorporating these innovative materials into their products, Myrtha Pools aims to reduce waste and promote a circular economy.

A Showcase of Sustainable Practices|World Aquatics Championships Fukuoka 2023 

Myrtha Pools has recently made significant contributions to sustainability at the World Aquatics Championships – Fukuoka 2023, providing five pools that exemplify two distinct sustainability models: the reuse and the legacy models. 

Under the ‘Reuse model’, as explained by Myrtha’s Project Manager Director Mauro Rivetta: “Two main competition pools, set to host swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo competitions, have been constructed using parts from previous events, including Copenhagen 2017 and Gwangju 2019. Notably, two out of the three perlite filters in the competition pool were originally used in Rio 2016. After each event, these filters were refurbished at Myrtha's headquarters, extending their lifecycle and minimising waste”. This approach highlights Myrtha’s dedication to sustainability also through water conservation. 

In line with their commitment to social investment, Myrtha Pools worked in collaboration with the organising committees, federations, Japanese authorities, and their distributor Aquatic Parts Company (APC) to configure three warm-up tanks for a multi-year legacy programme. “These tanks, with depths of 2m and 3m, will be reinstalled in various schools across Japan,” added Rivetta. “By subdividing the panels into smaller height components, Myrtha enables the development of swimming programmes in schools, fostering water safety and creating an enduring social impact.”

According to a comparative analysis conducted by Acor Consultants of Sydney, Myrtha technology significantly reduces CO2 emissions when compared to concrete pools (up to 50%) and welded steel pools (up to 30%). This reduction in emissions is a result of Myrtha’s commitment to utilising durable materials and innovative construction techniques. 

In the realm of sustainable building design and construction, various certification systems have emerged as indicators of quality and environmental performance. These certification systems provide a checklist of credits and criteria that are increasingly being embraced by investors and project stakeholders. 

Myrtha Pools' commitment to sustainability aligns with several renowned certification systems, including LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), and Green Star.
