Horst Miehe from New Zealand was the expert in charge of the course, sharing his wide knowledge on the following topics: The role of the coach in club development, Becoming a coaching professional, Stroke mechanics and competitive skills, Energy systems and physiological requirements, Adaptation and season planning, Long term athlete development, Athlete physical well-being and LTAD, How to teach in today's environment, Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

To put theory into practice, all went to the Ethiopia Stadium for a pool session including freestyle and breastroke drills, dives and turns, and land work exercises. All participants followed the learning programme with enthusiasm and attentiveness. 

In his report, Miehe reminds the tremendous importance for FINA and the IOC to continue working together with the domestic federation so that swimming in Ethiopia has a brighter future. He added in this respect: "This course is a fantastic starting point, but the support needs to be ongoing and scheduled."

With such project, Ethiopian swimming can provide continuous training at the highest level for its coaches, a legacy of knowledge and experience that  will continue to grow within the federation.
