"I'm very happy for this award, it is a dream come true. I'm excited because we have been working for many years," says Ivan Bautista, who initially worked with Jorge Rueda, builder of Olympic medallists, and later created his own school in Jalisco.
Bautista was chosen for this award due to his athletes' results and the structure has to work on the CODE Jalisco: "I have athletes who have been with me for ten years. It is a new generation that is watching but this is the work of many years."
Ivan Bautista has been coaching for 16 years. His early years of coaching go back to IMSS CAAAN and he currently serves as Head of Diving in Jalisco CODE (since 2005), whose group has positioned as leader at National Championships and National Olympiad.
Among his main achievements are: coaching of the national team at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 (German Sanchez), three finallists at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, 10 medals at FINA World Junior Diving Championships (Brazil 2004, Malaysia 2006 and Tucson 2010). He has also won the National Olympic Diving for ten consecutive years.
In 2010, Ivan Bautista was consecrated with finallists at the FINA/Arena Diving World Cup, six medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, a bronze medal from Ivan Garcia at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and three FINA World Junior Diving Championships medals in Tucson (gold and bronze for Kevin Chavez and bronze for German Sanchez). His other athletes are: Arantxa Chavez, Julian Sanchez and Jahir Ocampo among others.
Ivan Bautista was appointed as coach of Mexico this year and received the award along with Paola Longoria (racquetball), Juan Rene Serrano (archery), Mauro Maximo de Jesus (Paralympic), Joakim Soria (baseball) and Theocritus Arteaga (sports promoter).
The National Sports Award is the highest award given by the Government of Mexico to the best amateur and professional athletes, coaches and sports promoters. The 2010 special was to be delivered on the anniversary of the Bicentennial of the Mexican Revolution and the centennial of the Revolution in the country.
