The final leg of the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series, due to be held in Sheffield this week, has been cancelled following the continued closure of air space across Britain as a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland and ensuing ash cloud.
The FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series, powered by British Gas, was set to take place at the Sheffield International Venues managed Ponds Forge on 23 and 24 April. It will now be held in Veracruz in Mexico following the completion of the second leg of the series yesterday. British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes commented: "While this is a huge disappointment for British Swimming and fans of diving, the situation is beyond our control. To ensure the athletes can resume the competition we have reluctantly agreed to accept the generous offer of the Mexican Government and Federation to step in to help in what is clearly a challenging time for everyone in Europe.”
