The men produced fantastic speed, the best ones covered the 10km in 1:41 hours, a quite amazing time.

Jack Burnell (GBR), winner of the race in Cozumel (MEX) and runner-up in Abu-Dhabi (UAE) added another gold to his tally and took over the lead in the overall.

In the finish he rushed ahead and gained 3 seconds on the 2011 and 2013 world champion Spyridon Gianniotis (GRE).

Simone Ruffini (ITA) just out-touched home hero Gergely Gyurta (HUN) for the bronze medal.

“Without doubt, I wanted to win it, it was always the plan from the start” Jack Burnell said.

“It was a good warm-up for the World Championships, I’m very satisfied, I felt really comfortable there, I felt I was sharp, I was ready to go. The World Championship should be a good race.”

The top four finishers hit the panel in a span of two seconds in the women’s event – it couldn’t have been any tighter.

Last year’s FINA Open Water Swimmer of the Year, the 2014 overall winner Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) was the fastest in the finish, just ahead of Olympic title-holder Eva Risztov (HUN) and 2011 world champion Keri-Anne Payne (GBR), who touched in 0.05sec ahead of Rachele Bruni (ITA).

“Every time the end of the race is the strongest part, the best swimmers are always ready to do a big sprint, it happens every time in the World Cup and something similar is expected at the World Championships, too” Ana Marcela Cunha said.

“I’m really happy with my performance, since Barcelona 2013 I always want to be in the top 5 in the World Cup races and I just managed to do that consistently and hope to do the same at the World Championships in Kazan.”

FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup action will continue next week in Setubal (POR).
