Bolzano City

Bolzano (German: Bozen) is the capital city of the province of Alto Agide (South Tyrol) in northern Italy. With a population of 107,436, Bolzano is also by far the largest city in South Tyrol and the third largest in Tyrol.

Bolzano is considered as a bridge between North and South due to the three spoken languages in South Tyrol (Italian, German, and Ladin) and the confluence of Italian and German-Austrian culture.

Being located at multiple climate borders, Bolzano features a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and very cold winters by Italian standards. Its medieval city centre, Gothic and Romanesque churches and bilingual signage give it the flavour of a city at the crossroads of Italian and Austrian cultures. This and its natural and cultural attractions make it a popular tourist destination. Bolzano is connected to the motorway network to Trento and Verona and to Innsbruck (Austria) and Munich (Germany). The city is also connected to the Italian railway system.

There is a 50-kilometre network of cycle paths, and about 30 percent of journeys in Bolzano are made by bicycle. Since 1966 a cable car connects the centre of Bolzano with Soprabolzano and the community of Ritten
