BRASILIA, BRAZIL, 12 October—Originally scheduled for 11-12 October (World Aquatics High Diving Junior Championships) and 12-13 October (World Aquatics High Diving World Cup), both events have been cancelled due to inclement weather and venue safety concerns.

The first day of competition of the High Diving Junior Championship took place on 11 October, with the 15-16-year-old male and female athletes competing on the 12m tower, and the 17-18-year-old male and female competitors diving from 15m in Brasilia.

Lacey Hema of Australia became the first World Aquatics junior world champion in high diving, winning the 15-16-year-old women’s age group following four rounds of dives. The 15-16-year-old men completed two rounds of dives on Friday. The 17-18-year-old men’s and women’s competition completed the two rounds of dives from the 15m tower on Friday. The final two rounds were previously scheduled for Saturday.

However, reviewing the condition of the diving platform after a thunderstorm and heavy winds at the competition venue on Friday evening and considering the limited time available for further preparations, World Aquatics and the Brazilian Diving Federation determined that the competition could not continue in a way that ensured the athletes' safety. This led to the decision to cancel the remaining events.

World Aquatics Executive Director Brent Nowicki expressed his regret, stating: “It is always a tough decision to cancel an event, especially given the athletes’ commitment and preparation. However, the safety of our athletes is our top priority. After consulting with the Organising Committee, we determined that the necessary standards could not be met within the remaining timeframe. Cancelling was the only responsible course of action.”

The High Diving World Cup event in Brasilia was also intended to qualify athletes for the men’s and women’s high diving competitions at the World Aquatics Championships - Singapore 2025. World Aquatics will soon announce an updated qualification pathway for these athletes.
