Composed in competition at the World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023, these athletes caught our attention with what they had to say once they stepped out of the pool.
Ariarne Titmus (AUS), Gold, Swimming, Women’s 400m Freestyle
“I’ve got a ‘fearless’ tattoo on my foot so I can see that before I dive. I try to swim like that little girl I was first up against Katie. I was never afraid to take it to her. I'm glad that we could put on a show and that women’s sport is really getting hyped up and I feel really blessed to be part of it.”
Samuel Short (AUS), Gold, Swimming, Men’s 400m Freestyle
“I’ve never made it to a World Championships final individually until this year. I knew I could go faster tonight. That challenge from Ahmed in that last 100m really brought me up to the task and I got there in the end. Stoked.”
Leon Marchand (FRA), Gold, Swimming, Men’s 400m Individual Medley
“That was insane. That was one of the most painful things I did. It was just amazing to do it here. This time is crazy. The best is yet to come.”
Kyle Chalmers (AUS), Gold, Swimming, Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay
“It's probably one of our proudest moments ever in Australian swimming history. For us to be able to stand on top of the podium tonight - the first time since Shanghai in 2011.”
Shayna Jack (AUS), Gold, Swimming, Women’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay
“We had an amazing time. I think that’s what you saw in the pool was just four girls having the best time of their life. It is Australia’s night. We’ve had a phenomenal night.”
