Composed in competition at the World Aquatics Championships, these athletes caught our attention with what they had to say once they stepped out of the pool.
DIVING
“There is no big secret to my success today. Everything is a result of the high degree of effort and consistency that I put up in relation to my training. Besides that, I tried to stay true to myself and the values that I hold dear. In the world of diving anything can happen. Anyone can become the world champion. It all hangs on who can maintain their position at top of the heap and produce the six most consistent dives on that given day where the final takes place.”
- Cassiel Rousseau (AUS), Gold, Diving, Men’s 10m Platform, Final
WATER POLO
“I’m always looking to be better, the best I can be. I really enjoy being around other teams and other cultures, their smiles and when they look at us as opposition. I love sport.”
- Marilia Mimidis (CAN), Water Polo, Women’s Classification Crossovers, Canada 20 d South Africa 6
ARTISTIC SWIMMING
“Absolutely insane week!”
- Eden Worsley (NZL), Artistic Swimming, Post-Competition Gala Exhibition
SWIMMING
“Personally, I like to operate with the mindset that I am not talented enough to ‘not put in the work and to have the success that I want’. I have seven days of racing for me personally and I know if I am not putting in the work, those seven days of racing are not going to turn out to be what I want them to be. The ‘less is more’ for me does not work, I know that for sure. I know that for some of those sprint guys, it has. Kudos to them, but I know that I cannot get away with that.”
- Lilly King (USA), Swimming, Pre-Competition Press Conference
COACHES CORNER
“The benefit of this match was the final score. We played well in defence, but we were always thinking of the next game, which is a very hard one against the USA team. It is the most powerful in the world. We have to play that match with no fear. We played them two times in the last two months and played very well in the World Cup. He just has to make another good game.”
- Carlo Silipo (ITA), Italy Head Coach, Water Polo, Women’s Classification Crossovers, Italy 13 d New Zealand 8
