Terracotta Warriors (Bing Ma Yong)

 

Located to the west of Xi'an, The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife. They were built by hundreds of thousands of men more than 2,000 years ago. Each warrior was as big and vivid as a real soldier. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses, the largest underground military museum, it was listed as the World Cultural Heritage and honored as “The eighth Wonder of the World” in 1987.

The Xi'an City Wall was initially built in 582 AD and survived Tang Dynasty, Five Dynasties, Song Dynasty, Jin Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. Until Ming Dynasty, it was expanded and rebuilt on the basis of the imperial city of Tang Dynasty, Chang'an. It has undergone multiple repairs and new constructions since the founding of PRC, finally presenting its current appearance.

Dayan Pagoda

The seven-floor Dayan Pagoda is located in the Da Ci'en Temple, the south of Xi'an, also known as the "Ci'en Temple Pagoda". In the third year of Tang Yonghui (652 AD), Xuanzang directed the construction of the Dayan Pagoda to preserve the sutras, scriptures and Buddhist statues he brought back from India via the Silk Road.

Royal Garden of the Tang Dynasty

Tang Paradise is located in the Qujiang Developemnt Area in the south of Xi’an, facing the Dayan Pagoda in distance. It is modeled on the construction pattern of the royal garden in Tang Dynasty. It is China’s first large-scale royal garden-style cultural theme park that fully demonstrating the charm and grandeur of Tang Dynasty’s prosperity in its heyday.

The Daming Palace National Heritage Park is built on the site of the Daming Palace in Tang Dynasty. The palace was the political heart and centre of power back during the dynasty’s prime. It is an important cultural relic and a key vehicle of Chinese national culture that’s hailed as "the one palace among a thousand" and “the oriental palace of the Silk Road.”

Xi'an, formerly known as Chang'an in ancient times, is the capital of Shaanxi Province, with 11 districts, 2 counties, 7 development zones, and Xixian New Area, covering an area of 10,096 square kilometres and taking up a permanent population of 13.163 million people.

Xi'an is an important birthplace of Chinese nation and culture, enjoying a rich historical heritage. It is one of the four civilized ancient capitals of the world, with a history of over 7,000 years of civilization, over 3,100 years of urban construction, and over 1,100 years of being the capital of China.

Thirteen dynasties established their capitals here, and it has been recognized as a "World Famous Historical City" by UNESCO. Xi'an is a "natural history museum" with six world cultural heritage sites, 3,246 immovable cultural relics, 428 key cultural relics protection units of all levels, and 159 museums of all sorts.
