World Aquatics retained the top spot on Facebook and moved up three places to seventh in the overall standings of the 2023 edition of the #SportonSocial League Table, which analyses the performance of International Federations (IFs) across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and TikTok.
Following a tailored digital content strategy designed to maximise engagement levels on platforms during World Aquatics Championships, Olympics, World Cups and age-group events, World Aquatics is delighted to have consolidated its presence on Facebook, while also seeing increased growth across other channels including TikTok and Instagram.
“Everyone at World Aquatics is absolutely delighted to have achieved the top ranking on Facebook for a second consecutive year,” said World Aquatics Executive Director Brent Nowicki. “At a time when we are engaging with the aquatics community more than ever before, we’re thrilled to see third-party evidence that confirms positive results. With Paris 2024 approaching, we’re excited to continue bringing our global community closer to the action and engage with the next generation of aquatics athletes.”

“We are very happy for this back-to-back success! Our Facebook fanbase represents the biggest community among World Aquatics social media channels with more than 1.5 million followers,” said World Aquatics Digital Manager, Luca Fasani, in the report. “We are proud to lead this ranking ahead of other global sport federations with a larger fanbase. It means a lot to see how much our fans are engaged and express their love for aquatic sports every day. Our priority was indeed to keep up the engagement and eventually do better than last year, and we did it.”
These latest results underline the immediate benefits of a new brand and visual identity and the ability to unite all aquatics disciplines, safely, fairly and sustainably. Moreover, today’s report builds on the success of the recent 2022 BCW International Sports Federations Social Media Ranking, where World Aquatics demonstrated strong growth across all digital platforms in 2022.
