Lausanne (SUI), August 16, 2010 – The 12th FINA World Junior Synchronised Swimming Championships concluded on Sunday August 15, 2010, at “The Nat” on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis (USA). The five-day event brought together 200 of the world’s most elite junior synchronised swimmers, to compete in Solo, Duet, Team and Combination events.
On the final day, it is a clean sweep for Russia, the traditional synchronised swimming powerhouse nation, which took the four medals on offer. The Russian squad produced magnificent performances in all routines, combining technical perfection and theatrical skills, being the only team to exceed 170 points in Solo, Duet and Team events.
In the Duet, Milena Miteva and Elena Prokofeva (RUS) gave their country the first gold medal of the competition, totalling 171.296 points. Teammate Vlada Chigireva completed the table with a second medal of this colour in the Solo, obtaining the highest score of 171.548. Russia continued her winning streak by taking gold in both Team and the competition’s most original event, Combination, scoring 170.486 and 91.840 points respectively.
Ukraine is the second most successful nation of the competition, having tallied an impressive three silver medals. The country’s rising talent Lolita Ananasova finished second in the Solo (166.708 points) and in the Duet with partner Kateryna Sadurska (166.472 points). Ukraine picked up her third piece of international silverware in the Combination, scoring 90.250 points.
The Canadian delegation confirmed their podium ambitions, securing the bronze in the Solo, with Emilia Kopcik’s score of 165.277, the Duet, with Rachel Frechette and Emilia Kopcik obtaining a final 164.093, and Team (162.260 points).
The last nation to earn a podium spot was China, claiming a silver medal in the Team event (162.858 points) and a bronze in the Combination (89.710 points).
