Brazilian swimming great Pereira defeated the world record holder Darian Townsend of South Africa by 0.05 second to capture the men's 200m individual medley gold in 1:54.21. With this victory, Pereira obtains his third title after triumphing in the 200m medley and 200m butterfly.  

14-year-old Ye Shiwen of China picked up two golds on Wednesday in the women's 100m freestyle in 53.66 and surged to beat world record holder Julia Elizabeth Smit (USA) in the last stroke in the 400m individual medley in 4:28.67. Ye had won the 200m medley a day earlier. Smit's 4:28.92 was more than 8 seconds shy of her own World record 4:21.04 when she swam in Manchester last December. After the race, Smit said: "I'm still struggling with the time lag. My performance is not very good, but it's OK. Since I'll compete in the following stops, I still have time to find my best form."

Therese Alshammar (SWE)

Roland Mark Schoeman of South Africa clocked 21.47 in  the men's 50m freestyle to obtain his third title while Therese Alshammar of Sweden stormed in the women's 50m  butterfly in 25.48, gaining her third gold at the World Cup.

After the Beijing leg, the World Cup will make a stop in Singapore, Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow and ends in Stockholm.
