From now on, the search for a given performance can be done on a more specific way, allowing a more comprehensive “image” of the result, both on the athletes and the countries’ side. This will result on an increased amount of available information (on a more “friendly” way) for all those consulting the system – swimmers, coaches, officials, administrators, media, and public at large.
Another significant difference in relation to the previous system is that FINA is directly involving its 202 National Member Federations in the inclusion of data concerning their affiliated athletes. Thanks to a secured login system, each National Federation is now invited to enter its swimmers’ personal information, as well as directly submit their results or the performances of a national meet. This data is then validated by the specialised staff running this database before the definitive entry of the information into the system.
In the months to come, an Online Meet Entry section will also be activated and will work on time for the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai (CHN) and for the 2012 Olympic Games in London (GBR). Finally, in the medium term, the system will also be able to generate swimmers’ biographies, for the use of media and public in general.
