
The Junior Pan Pacific Championships will be held in Hawai’i (USA) on August 26-29, 2010. Japan will send 15 boys and 17 girls, among which one boy and two girls will compete in the open water swimming events.
The nationals of Masters will be held at the Tokyo-Tatsumi International Swimming Complex on July 16-19, 2010. This giant meet will welcome more than 6,000 swimmers.
Yoshiko Osaki will try to break more world records at this upcoming championships (she established her 200th world record, timing 1:14.58 in the women’s 100 freestyle in the 70-74 year-old category last year).
Junya Koga, gold medallist in the men’s 100 backstroke at the FINA World Championships Rome 2009, was elected “Athlete of the Year 2009” by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC). The JOC held its award ceremony at NHK – Japan National TV – Hall in Tokyo, Japan, on June 20, 2010. Mr. Kazuo Sano, President of the Japan Swimming Federation, Mr. Yoshihiko Osaki, President of Japan Masters Swimming Association and Mr. Isao Nakajima, President of Japan Swimming Clubs Association, attended the ceremony. Two other athletes, Yoshie Ueno from Women’s Judo and Kohei Uchimura from Men’s Gymnastics, were also awarded.
