The most awaited moment was naturally the parade of the 189 flags of the attending nations in Kazan, a new record in the history of the FINA World Championships. Under a curtain of water, the countries that form the FINA universe demonstrated the value of FINA’s major event, followed by billions of TV viewers in the five continents.

In his opening speech, the FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione recalled the excellence of the Kazan 2015 organisation and the support received from all the FINA National Federations in the lead-up for this event. “The outstanding venues, well in the centre of the beautiful city of Kazan, will be the privileged scenario for thrilling performances, and will show to the world the grandiosity of our Stars and of our Aquatic Sports. My sincere thanks go to our National Federations for their effort and devotion to the preparation of their athletes, coaches and officials”, considered the FINA President, accompanied in the Tribune of Honour by Mr. Putin, but also by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, and by ANOC President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

Then, Dr. Maglione made a strong appeal to all participants in the Championships: “Aquatic athletes of the world, you are at the heart of our activities! Please compete in the spirit of FINA – Excellence, Friendship and Respect. Good luck and the best to win!” He concluded his speech by expressing FINA’s gratitude and appreciation for the “extraordinary support, passion, involvement and professionalism” from all the authorities of the Russian Federation, Republic of Tatarstan, City of Kazan, and Kazan 2015 Organising Committee.

After this grandiose show, the population of Kazan will be able to enjoy it for an additional week (of course, without the official part) in the Tatneft Arena, thus experiencing with more intensity the Aquatic Festival in the capital of Tatarstan.
