Marton
Szivos, continuing on where his grandfather and father left off, but
seeking a gold medal that matters, was in blistering form with three
goals by midway through the second quarter as Hungary turned a 3-2
advantage at 5:32 to 7-2 by halftime.

Norbert Hosnyanszky scored
either side of halftime as Hungary won the period 3-2. Two goals early
in the fourth had the game at 12-4, moving out to 13-5.
It was all
Hungary, but it must be said that two late shots from China could easily
have gone in. Conversely, Hungary’s defence made that an improbability.

FLASH QUOTES:

Marton Szivos (HUN):
“The first game of the tournament is always the most difficult. I am proud of my team, we won this together. Serbia are a very good team, it seems to be tradition that we always play each other, but after this game we are ready.”

Daniel Varga (HUN):
“I feel 100 percent better, I left the injury behind (recent hand break). It was an important game to get confidence because for some of the players this was their first game in a championship so it was like a test for them. It gives us confidence for the next game.”

Rick Azevedo (CHN Head Coach):
“I’m really happy to be here, but I’m not satisfied; we missed a lot of opportunities. We let them score four goals in the first few minutes. We are a young team and now we have to work hard in order to improve. Hungary has great shooters and Australia they are also physically really strong.”
